in DHR Umeåavd. you can meet likemindeds.

We work to influence public opinion, by writing in papers and

having meetings and discussions with decisionmakers.

We have studiegroups in for ex. litteratur, oilpainting, Umeå history mm

We also organize conferences in current interest.

We hope to see you participating in our work.

The main goals for us when influencing public opinion are
Attidudes
Accessibility
Paticipation
Idependent living.

Attitudes

There is a basic obstacle for full accessibility and participation for all citizens;

it is the ignorance and the prejudices people with disability often meet.

Peoples prejudices are mainly caused by ignorance and fear;

hence our work influencing public opinion and conveying knowledge to the decisionmakers is of most importance.

Open minded fellow beings hopefully becomes insightful decisionmakers;

who can provide an accessible society to all of us.

Accesibility

Accessibility means not just the obvios physical accessibility.

It also includes access to information for all citizens:

- people with none or little sight or hearing;

- people with communication- and understandingproblem

Accessibility includes the right for you to visit restaurants and theaters,

to go shopping or travel by bus or train also if you are allergic.

Full accessibility also means to respect people who are sensitive of noise

and light.

Participation

Full accessibility , technical aid and meeting a friendly open mind is the key

to feel as a participating respected citizen.

Participation means the right to education and employment for you and

me and everyone regardless of disability. You and me and all other citizens each

have something to contribute.

Consider all hidden resourses you miss when not using our knowledge

and selfexperience. There will be much better decisions made after listening

and learning from selfexperience.

Participation also means representing your own interest yourself.

It gives credibility to our organisation when we are representing ourself,

and not someone else speaking without our unique experience.

Independent living

When you gain full accessibility and participation as a respected citizen

you live an independent life, to your own ability.

Independent living means having control of your own life.

The help and service you need are given on your terms.

Your school and studiebooks must be accesible and adjusted to your needs.

Likewise your workplace shall be fully adjusted for you to be able to do your

best at your work.
